Sunday, 28th May is Mother’s Day in France. For the occasion, Victoire and Louis Burgundy, helped by their father Carl, have come up with a special programme that combines shopping, culture, relaxation and gastronomy. A special day to be enjoyed with abandon.

A mother’s life!

But perhaps not. Marie Burgundy is adamant that her Mother's Day should be neither commercial nor inspired by the lyrical flights of Philippe Pétain. Her celebrations should follow in the footsteps of the ancient Greeks who honoured Cybèle, Mother of all Gods, Guardian of the Knowledge and Goddess of Nature. After a gourmet breakfast at the hotel, Marie’s day will begin with a visit to the Musée de l'Orangerie, just 10 minutes from the Burgundy. After seeing the Nymphéas she loves, Marie will view at the collections of Impressionist paintings and abstracts lent by the Bridgestone Museum of Tokyo. The family will then make the transition from food for the soul to more earthly fare with a tasty country picnic at the Jardin des Tuileries.

A zest of delicious futility

Then it will be time for a spot of shopping in the glamorous fashion stores between Rue Saint-Honoré and its prestigious neighbours so that Marie can commit just a small folly with a new dress. Back at the Burgundy Paris, Marie is expected at the spa where she’ll relax during a Hammam or sauna before enjoying a soothing Sothys care ritual in its serene and delicately perfumed atmosphere. After exfoliation, sculpting, or facial treatments, Marie will put the last touch to her toilette before joining her children for the dinner they have planned for her in Le Baudelaire restaurant. Blue lobster, Sicilian scallops, beef rump steak from Galicia, caramelised pears, Piedmont hazelnuts, or Macaé chocolate? So many decisions. Being a mother is such a hard job!
