Marie and Carl Burgundy have had a note in their planner for some time; one of the year’s unmissable events for lovers of art and beautiful objects will be held in the magnificent Grand Palais from September 10th to 18th : the Biennale des Antiquaires.

Hundreds of treasures

Furniture, paintings, primitive art, jewellery, woodwork and carving – every imaginable type of creation from designers, sculptors, painters, artisans and jewellers through the centuries can be seen over the course of 9 days. The Grand Palais is a magnificent setting, and the glass roof has been dressed for the event by Nathalie Crinière, a designer to whom we owe the realisation of many Dior exhibitions and the interior decoration of the Yves Saint Laurent Foundation. Whatever your favourite style, you're certain to find it among the many wonders on offer this year from almost 120 exhibitors from 14 different countries. Marie Burgundy can’t resist the swirling plants and flowers that are a feature of Art Nouveau while M. Burgundy prefers the simple lines of contemporary design.

The Biennale – soon to become an annual event

Although the decision was only made quite recently, it’s no secret that the famous Biennale will become an annual fixture from next year. This small revolution is the result of the event’s success and popularity and a few adjustments have been made to accommodate the changes – jewellery specialists, antique dealers and galleries will have their space restricted slightly from 2017 in order to make way for more overseas exhibitors. However, it’s reassuring for Marie Burgundy to know that a special place for jewellery will be retained, although it will still be incredibly difficult for her to decide between that elegant diamond set ring or those chic earrings.  As buyers, we love to stroll among the exhibits, slide our fingers over the wooden display cases and imagine evenings when we might have cause to wear that magnificent tiara. We all love to dream so it’s hard to finally leave the enchanting Biennale.
